Here are the sites I selected as interesting, different, funny, strange
or informative, since November of 1997. Many are gone, and I have marked those with RIP (Rest
In Peace) symbols. Such is the nature of the internet.
Selected Sites from 2000
January 2 The Fix Express
They call it the start page for the smart surfer. Featuring a joke, trivia, quote
and history fact for the day is just the beginning. There are many more links to
other facts. Start the new year by learning something each day.
January 9 Open Diary
I don't really keep a diary anymore, but if I did, I'd put it up here. They call themselves
the first interactive diary community on the net, and as I am writing this, there were some 550
new entries added just today. After you read some of the entries, perhaps you will be inspired
to start a diary.
January 16 Vagabunda
Not exactly your usual travelogue site, but it is worth a look. This collection of offbeat
recounting of travels by women is just the start of your own journey around the world.
January 23 Twenty Questions
"This is an experiment in Artificial Intelligence. The program is very simple but its behavior is complex.
Everything that it knows about and all questions that it asks were entered by other people using the
program. Twenty Questions is a learning system, the more it is played, the better it gets."
January 30 Punpunpun.com
Everyone likes a good pun. Too bad these are mostly bad ones. So if you have a bad one,
feel free to send it in. Actually, this is a humorous site, and if it doesn't make you smile, demand your
money refunded. From them.
February 6 Financials.com
The stock market is interesting, confusing, and right now, very volatile. This site can
get information for you, free, to help you decide how to invest.
February 13 Napster
Mp3s are the latest way to listen to music. I've never had any luck downloading them from mp3 sites,
until my daughter told me about this one. You download napster, then log on and search for the
artist or song. I've found some pretty unusual songs as well as many popular ones. Maybe you'll
download something from me.
February 20 CyberStones
They say, Welcome to CyberStones News Magazine, your best bet for hardcore, totally loopy
satire! Cruise our site and our archives, or use the Search Box below to search the entire
net! So do check them out.
February 27 Her Computer
Who says women can't use computers? Not me, obviously. This site gives helpful advice for
anyone who isn't a computer genius. They offer a free newsletter and much more. Don't be afraid
of the computer any longer.
March 5 My Left Ass Cheek
Another satirical news site. If you don't like the news, just reload and you'll get different
news. Don't let the news slip through the crack.
March 12 Jump The Shark
This is a site dedicated to when popular television shows start to die. Not every
tv show is here, but this site is growing and welcomes input from visitors. Definitely
worth a look if you're a tv fan.
March 19 Nupedia
This creative and ambitious site is trying to create an encyclopedia for
the internet. Just think about what a big job this is, and be thankful they
are doing this for all of us.
March 26 Gripe List
No one ever listens to you complain, right? Here is a site that welcomes your
complaints. Go on, tell the world what really bugs you. At least, you'll feel
better for getting it off your chest, even though no one really cares.
April 2 Charity Frogs
Please go to this site daily and click the button. Takes one minute of your time
and they will donate to the Red Cross. A similar site is
The Hunger Site, that feeds hungry people all over the world. It's a little
thing you can do to make our world a better place.
April 9 The Full Deck
Billed as "your topical cream in an abrasive age", The Full Deck is
satire, news, humor and irreverance all in one. It's a clever and well-designed
site that will make you think and laugh.
April 16 Totally Absurd
A site dedicated to ridiculous but real inventions. You won't believe some of what
you find. Makes you wonder... what the inventor was thinking.
April 23
Pink Bull.com RIP ... temporarily I hope
April 30 APBnews.com
APB stands for all points bulletin. Anyone who's ever watched a cop show knows that.
And since the advent of CNN and MSNBC, I have become a news junkie who will sit for
hours and
watch breaking news develop. To help me in this, I found this site that lets me know
what is happening in the rest of the country, just about as soon as it happens.
May 7 dMarie
Many people are interested in making scrapbooks these days. This site contains
much information about that, but what I found most interesting was its time
capsule. You pick a date, and it tells you what happened on that day.
May 14 The Auto Site
This site has loads of information about that necessary evil, the automobile. There
are tips on purchasing a car, maintaining a car, and much more.
May 21 Pop History Site
History repeats itself unless we learn from its lessons. This week it's 1957
and you can find out what was popular then in television, songs and radio. Take
a walk down memory lane for a while.
May 28 Internet Mental Health
This is a serious site about a serious problem. I have been diagnosed with depression
and have been on medication for years. Some days are good, some are bad for me. It's nice
to have online resources for information to help everyone.
June 4 Clerks
From the genius of Kevin Smith is this cartoon version of Clerks, based on his
movie. Be sure to visit the View Askew site
and learn how such movies as Dogma and Chasing Amy were filmed.
June 11 Nerdnosh
An online community for story tellers that I have joined for the second time in
three years. If you think you have a story to tell, come join the campfire.
June 18 Coupland
Douglas Coupland is the original Generation X author. His website is totally off
the wall and state of the art technology. Definitely worth a long look.
June 25 The National Musuem of Women in the Arts
This is a museum located in Washington, DC that is dedicated to women in the arts.
They feature their permanent collection, as well as other programs they offer.
July 2 Ace Slots
If you love playing Las Vegas games and can't either get to Vegas or afford it,
check out this free alternative to slots, keno and blackjack. Yes, it's completely
free. I also like the same block game.
July 9 Back to College
This is a site with lots of information for adults who are thinking about going
back to college. It has sections on funding, different kinds of programs, and
even information about online degrees.
July 16 GW Bush
This is a satirical site about the nominee George W. Bush. I am not endorsing him
nor Al Gore for president. That's not my purpose. I am exposing you to two very
humorous and well done sites that I'm sure Governor Bush would like to take off Vice President
Gore's invention, the internet.
July 23 Fun Trivia
A site for people with burning questions and too much time on their hands. The
trivia covers most things, and will challenge you when you should be doing something
else. You need to register, which is free, but then you can compete against others.
July 30 Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI
I never knew that retired FBI agents had their
own special group, but apparently they do. As you would expect from the FBI,
not too much information is given out, but it is an interesting glimpse at
something I knew nothing about before the internet.
August 6 The T'inator
Mr. T is a national treasure, but this site doesn't showcase him. Instead,
it takes an ordinary website and Mr. T's it. Don't understand what that means?
Go check it out with your favorite websites.
August 13 CondensedSoup.com
I'm not certain how to describe this site who's background is the color of
tomato soup. It's got cartoons, strange facts about soup, witty sayings involving
soup and it should make you smile, if not want to go heat up some soup.
August 20 Prescott Info
This site contains lots of good information about my town, including several
of the organizations I belong to. It has a brief history of the town, information
of local businesses and a calendar of events and much more. Come learn about
"everyone's hometown".
August 27 Cowboy Poets Society
Last weekend here in Prescott was the annual Cowboy Poets weekend. I'm not certain
if any of the members of this society were in attendance, but I wouldn't be
surprised.

It's not what you think. This site is for geeks everywhere. With the latest
tech news, and
reviews of new software, a real geek can get lost in here for hours.
October 8 Le Parisien
Ok, it is in French. But we need to branch out and explore the rest of the world.
Le Parisien is a French newspaper and it'll be good to read while you eat
your croissant and drink your café latte.
October 15 CyberAnalysis Clinic
Think you're going crazy and can't or won't get help? Come here and get analyzed
online. Just remember, you get what you pay for.
October 22 Senior Women.com
I'm not quite there yet, but this site still has great resources and information
for women of all ages. They cover it all... from the stock market to being a
grandmother to books, art and movies. Almost makes me wish I was older.
October 29 The Straight Dope
An online service of the Chicago Reader, this site claims to have fought ignorance
since 1973. There is still a lot of work to do, and if you have a question you want
answered, first check their archives, then pose it to the staff. They don't have
the answer to why men are so dumb.
November 5 Free Stuff
Who doesn't want free stuff? This stuff however, is mostly geared to people with websites,
and isn't that just about everyone? There's also free art and more, so give a look.

If the election here in the United States turns out as I fear, I may be moving abroad.
This site has tons of information about the entire world so perhaps it will help me
make my mind up. Yeah, right.

sometimes things go horribly wrong and mistakes are made, and you can find them here.
November 26 Soup of the Evening
It's finally cool enough for soups and this site has some great recipes to try to
warm the heart and stomach. When you try one, invite me over.

OK, I am lost. This site isn't helping me get found because they are too insensitive.
They call themselves "Unconventional
Propaganda Satirists". I believe them, and you will too.
